Sound familiar?

If any of this is your week, you’re in the right place — and none of it means something is wrong with you or your child.

If you’re a parent
  • Your child's big feelings are running the whole house.
  • Mornings end in tears, and school refusal is becoming a pattern.
  • Your teen has gone quiet, and you don't know how to reach them.
  • You’ve read all the parenting advice — you need someone who knows your kid.
If it’s you
  • You're functioning on the outside and exhausted on the inside.
  • The worry starts before your feet hit the floor.
  • You and your partner keep having the same argument on repeat.
  • You can’t remember the last time things felt light.

Meet your counselor

Valerie Fincher, M.S.S.C., LPC

I’ve helped adolescents and families find their footing — as a family counselor, a school counselor and department chair in Douglas County schools, and a teacher of students with behavioral disabilities.

That rare mix — a professional counselor’s training, a school counselor’s inside view — means I understand the whole picture: what’s happening at home, what’s happening at school, and how to help the two work together.

Who I work with

Counseling looks different at every age. Sessions are shaped around who’s in the room.

“Both the butterfly and the dragonfly begin in places they were never meant to stay. Transformation is not the absence of struggle—it is what can emerge from it.”

Specialties

Six areas where my experience runs deepest. And if what’s on your mind isn’t listed, the door is open to that, too.

What to expect

Reaching out is the hardest step. Here’s how simple the rest is.

1
Reach out

Request an appointment online or call. I'll follow up to talk through what's going on and whether it's a good fit — no pressure, no commitment.

2
Your first session

Mostly a conversation: what brought you in, what you'd like to change, and what working together will look like. Parents are part of the picture from day one.

3
Build, together

Practical tools, steady progress, and check-ins along the way — so the skills you build in session hold up in real life.

Ready when you are.

Take the next step — let’s explore how counseling can help you or your child move forward.
